47th Annual Salado
Scottish Clan Gathering & Highland
Games
November 7-9, 2008 in Salado, Texas
The Clan MacMillan Society of Texas hosted our clan tent at
the 47th Annual Salado
Scottish Clan Gathering & Highland Games in
Salado, Texas on November 8 and 9, 2008.
Mark McMillan and Gary McMillian drove up to Salado Friday
afternoon and setup the clan tent. Saturday morning, Gary
and Sherrell McMillian staffed the clan tent and welcomed
visitors. They were joined by David and Anne McMullen
during the day. Mark came later in the afternoon and closed
up the tent at the end of the day. Mark and Gary staffed
the tent on Sunday.
The clan tent included our Clan MacMillan banner, a Clan
MacMillan flag provided by the Appalachian Branch, tables,
chairs, and Clan MacMillan materials for our guests to
peruse. The materials included Graeme's book, Chief
George's book of poems, and notebooks prepared by Sherrell
McMillian with photos from our Gathering, photos of
historical MacMillan sites in Scotland, and information
about Clan MacMillan.
This year we had an "experienced" and sturdy tent that was
able to withstand the strong winds in Salado. It was Clan
MacMilan's turn to watch as another clan's tent succumbed
to a stout gust of wind.
David and Anne McMullen marched in the parade of tartans on
Saturday and carried the Clan MacMillan banner.
Mark McMillan and David McMullen wore their kilts and
displayed their MacMillan tartans.
We had just over a half dozen visitors to our tent that
signed our guest log. Hopefully, they enjoyed their visit
and will join us in the future. The attendance at the games
seemed down from the prior year, perhaps due to the new
location or the high cost of gasoline.

Games are posted at NASGA . Just click on the database
