46th Annual Salado
Scottish Clan Gathering & Highland
Games
November 9-11, 2007 in Salado, Texas
The Clan MacMillan Society of Texas hosted our first clan
tent at the 46th Annual Salado
Scottish Clan Gathering & Highland Games in
Salado, Texas on November 10 and 11, 2007.
On Saturday Jane McMillin, Leroy and Judy McMillin, and
David, John and Anne McMullen helped Mark and Judy McMillan
staff the clan tent while Gary McMillian participated in
the athletic events. We had a brand new tent, a Clan
MacMillan banner, a Clan MacMillan flag provided by the
Appalachian Branch, tables, chairs, ice chests with drinks,
and Clan MacMillan materials for our guests to peruse. The
materials included Graeme's book, Chief George's book of
poems, and notebooks prepared by Sherrell McMillian with
photos from our June Gathering, photos of historical
MacMillan sites in Scotland, and information about Clan
MacMillan.
The strong winds blowing across the Texas prairie were too
much for the flimsy tent that we had purchased and the tent
collapsed midday even with Mark's and Leroy's best efforts
to contain the damage and keep the structure upright.
Undaunted, we returned the broken tent to the store
Saturday night and were back in business Sunday morning
with a replacement tent. The replacement tent was smaller
but more substantial, and was able to withstand the strong
winds (although we were all watching the tent on Sunday
with some apprehension as the wind continued to blow!).
Some of our members marched in the parade of tartans on
Saturday and presented the Clan MacMillan flag and colors.
Mark McMillan and David McMullen wore their kilts.
We had about a dozen visitors to our tent(s) that signed
our guest log. Hopefully, they enjoyed their visit and will
join us in the future.
