Welcome to The Clan
MacMillan Society of Texas, a branch of Clan MacMillan
International.
The society held its first annual gathering in Austin on 12
June 2007. Over 40 charter members welcomed
Chief George
MacMillan, who traveled from Scotland to Texas to
help launch the new branch of Clan MacMillan
International. The society hosted its first Clan
MacMillan tent at the Salado Highland Games
in November 2007. The second annual gathering of the
society was held in Austin on 4 October 2008.
MacMillans in Texas are members of one of the oldest
Scottish clans. The clan originates with a 12th century
religious devotee named Gilchrist, who was a son of Cormac
the Bishop of Dunkeld from
1114 to 1131. Cormac is thought to be a
great-great-grandson of the 11th century Scottish king
Macbeth.
MacMillan is the most common spelling of the clan name in
Scotland. Common spellings in Texas include McMillan,
McMullen, McMillen and other variants.
The purpose of The Clan MacMillan Society of
Texas is to bring clan members together to share
in their common Scottish heritage.
